La Luna Apartments are located in the pretty coastal resort of Stalis, 32 km from Heraklion airport. The apartments of the Salavantakis family in Stalis are waiting to offer you unforgettable holidays in Crete.
The blue sea and beach of Stalis are just 350 metres from our apartments. In Stalis you will find cafes and restaurants next to the seaside shops and tour agents for your excursions in Crete. 3km from Stalis are Hersonisos and Malia, the busiest resorts in Crete and famous for the nightlife.
Stalis, which is between Hersonissos and Malia offers family holidays next to the sea. The long sandy beach of Stalis or Stalida as the locals know it is lined with many restaurants and cafés.
The centre of Stalis has a busy beach road which is lined with lots of boutiques and jewellery shops. You will also find the local bank, doctor’s office, chemist shops, hairdressers and fancy goods shops. There are cafes and coffee shops, restaurants and takeaways where you can indulge in local delicacies or where you can also buy English food. Indeed there will be a place where you can buy everything you want.
You can rent a cheap and safe car to travel and explore Crete or if you prefer an organised excursion then the travel service offices will give you all the information you need to choose the best for you.
From Stalis it’s very easy to visit Heraklion with the most famous archaeological museum and the Minoan Palace of Knossos. Also in adjacent Malia there is the Minoan Palace of Malia, the third most important Minoan Palace in Crete.
It is worth your while to visit Malia for the narrow alleyways in the old district of the town where little has changed over the last few hundred years. There you can find small restaurants and taste the Cretan delights. The locals are very friendly and just love the British tourist who takes the time to sample their way of life.
If you want to enjoy the nightlife with your friends you’ve got the opportunity to enjoy hundreds of bars in Malia and Hersonissos.
If you prefer traditional life and architecture, the villages Mochos, Krasi, and the plateau of Lasithi will offer you beautiful panoramas of the special beauty of Crete. If you visit the plateau of Lasithi don’t forget to stop for a while at the nunnery of Kera with the magnetically mural.
Another recommendation for a one day trip from Stalis, is Agios Nicolaos with the mysterious lake. Agios Nicolaos is about half hour from Stalis. From there you can visit Elounda, the place which is preferred by prime ministers, famous artists and Arab princes for their holidays. From Agios Nicolaos, also, there are small boats which can transfer you to Spinalonga Island with the Venetian fort, which was once home to the leper colony of Greece. It is especially worth a visit for the serene and poignant reminders of what was once the last resting place for terminally ill citizens of Greece.
Whatever is your interest, remember that Stalis is located in a perfect position, being not too near the main airport of Crete thereby avoiding aircraft noise but close enough to avoid lengthy transfers to your destination. Centrally located on the northern coastline of Crete you are within easy distance of most of the sights and the most beautiful beaches and hidden coves of this most welcoming of Greek islands.
